How to Build the Courage to Go Solo

I would love to share my own experience and inspire every woman to explore the world without hesitation. I didn’t start brave, I trained my mindset, trip by trip. If I could do it, you can do it too. This page is meant to motivate you, prepare you, and give you the courage to begin your own road trip journey.

Why I Started Traveling Solo

I wrote this because I know what it feels like to wait for the right time, the right travel partner, or the right confidence. My goal is to raise your motivation and encourage you to take action for your own life journey.

I didn’t begin with a big cross-country adventure. I started small and local, then traveled further each time. My first solo road trip was in October 2023, just three days, two nights in Mammoth Lakes during fall season. The trees were glowing with color, the air was cool, and my heart was nervous but excited.

That first night I camped. The second night I stayed in a hotel because I got uncomfortable. It was a mix of camping and glamping, but guess what? It didn’t matter. I went. I saw new places. I learned what to pack, what to avoid, and what to do better next time.

Does This Sound Like You?

These thoughts used to stop me too:

  • “What if I feel lonely or unsafe?”
  • “I don’t want to eat in a restaurant by myself.”
  • “My friend canceled, so I guess I can’t go.”
  • “I want to travel, but I don’t know how to start.”
  • “Something bad might happen.”
  • “People will stare at me.”
  • “No one wants to join me.”
  • “What if they think I’m weird or crazy?”
  • “My partner can’t go with me, so I’ll just stay home.”
  • “My family said, ‘Don’t do it!’”

I heard it all. Even after I came back from my first trip, I still heard:

“You did WHAT? That’s crazy! Don’t do it again!”

Were they mean? No. They were afraid. But their fear didn’t belong to me, and it doesn’t belong to you either.

You Are Not the Problem

People will discourage you because:

  • They worry about your safety.
  • They don’t understand your dream.
  • They would never do it themselves.
  • Their mindset is not your mindset.

But there are also people who will cheer you on:

  • “Wow, I’m so proud of you!”
  • “That’s amazing!”
  • “I wish I could do that!”
  • “You inspire me!”
  • “You are amazing!”

Those voices matter more. And if nobody around you encourages you, let me be that voice.

Don’t Wait for Someone to Go With You

Maybe your partner’s schedule doesn’t match yours. Maybe your friends cancel last minute.
Maybe no one is available when you’re ready.

That doesn’t mean the trip is canceled.

You can go alone, come back glowing with happiness, and bring home good energy instead of frustration.

Traveling solo doesn’t take you away from people, it brings you closer to yourself.

Mindset Is Everything

Your mindset will decide your journey before the car even moves.

Here’s the mindset that helped me start:

1. Prepare Well

Do your research. Plan your route.
Pack smart.
Know where you’re sleeping.
Have a backup option.
Preparation is confidence.

 2. Start Local

You don’t need to drive across the country right away.
Start with:

  • A nearby lake
  • A one-night trip
  • A day drive to somewhere new

Small trips build strong courage.

 3. Expect Fear, But Don’t Quit

Before my first solo trip, I almost didn’t go. The morning I planned to leave, I stayed in bed telling myself:
“Next time is fine… I don’t need to go today…”

I almost cancelled it.  I left around noon instead of early morning, but I still went. And when I came home, I was full of happiness, memories, and pride.

That moment changed me.

You Can Do Exactly What I Did

I want you to feel what I felt:

  • Proud
  • Freedom
  • Strong
  • Brave
  • Happy

Travel doesn’t make you fearless, it makes you powerful.

You don’t need to wait for the perfect time, a travel buddy, or permission from anyone.

You just need:

  • Preparation
  • Curiosity
  • Courage to start

If You’re Reading This, Your Journey Has Already Begun

You’re here because something inside you wants more:

  • More adventure.
  • More nature.
  • More confidence.
  • More life.

And I’m here to remind you:
Don’t wait. Don’t cancel. Don’t talk yourself out of it.

JUST GO: with a good plan and the right mindset.

Your future self will thank you.
